After 25 years surfing across the globe Stuart began his Coaching Career in 1998 in NZ completing the very first NZ Surf Coaching clinic. Stuart went abroad to Australia to increase his experience and coached among the biggest surf schools in Sydney and the world. This included high performance coaching that included 9 Junior Titles and an SLSA Australian Championship Gold.
Stuart has coached literally, thousands and when in 2008 encountered Stand Up Paddle he saw in Sup the key to unlock the love of standing on a board in nature globally. From a community service background he immediately saw the inclusive nature of Sup (worldwide locations) and that barriers to entry were low (most people can achieve success on the first day).
He then set about mastering and pioneering the sport. In Australia he completed the 2008 111km Hawkesbury Classic, the first person to do so and that year made the Sup surfing final at the Dukes Oceanfest amateur finishing third. He also founded Sydney's first Sup schools and started Australia's first waterman clinics for kids and the International brand Suplove.
Stuart then set his mind to racing and his international record is listed below. With a Battle of Paddle victory and third at M20 World Championships (ACP#4) his standing within the Sup community is well documented.
2013 saw him launch the International adventure company SupExplore and introduce Adventure Concept Paddles (ACP). An ACP is a character driven story mixing natural wonder, risk, adventure, tradition, culture, history where paddling comes along for the ride. It’s the story that is important and each ACP aims to assist a charity. He says "It’s about one day getting that feeling I am going to paddle around the next corner and I know I can do it and come back safely"
He is the only person to complete the West to East traverse of NZ (ACP#1), The circumnavigation of Auckland (ACP#2) and The Circumnavigation of the Sydney basin (ACP#4) supporting the reduction of marine debris with Tangaroa blue.
